Have you noticed the new Basketball hoops at Morgan Park?! This new 3X3 Basketball area has been funded by the Waihī Community Forum, as part of its Streets Ahead scheme, and is the sixth Streets Ahead project for the Forum.
The Forum funded this project because the courts are close to Waihī East and will add to the Morgan Park Sports Hub development. Basketball is growing in popularity, particularly with our youth, and previously, the only courts available were at Waihī College or at Waihī Beach. These courts, created on the remaining stable netball courts, are for anyone to use, at any time, and we've noticed kids on the courts every day since it opened!
We'd like to thank Mark Skinner and the Sport 'n' Action team for allowing this latest project at Morgan Park. We'd also like to thank Warren Carter from Carters Contractors, who drilled the holes, concreted in the bases for the hoops (and let us use their Hiab to lift the hoops into position at no cost!) and Gary Samson, who helped attach the hoops. We'd also like to thank Hauraki District Council for tidying up the old damaged courts and OceanaGold Waihī for funding the Streets Ahead Scheme, which enables us to make improvements in Waihī East.
